Can you afford it?
If no, there’s your answer.
If maybe, take how many hours you work in PA and divide it by your salary, do the same with the new job. See what’s better.
Yeah, it might be a drop in actual pay, but more an hour, and you’re getting those hours back in life.
I did this recently, 0 regrets. I rather have time vs money. It sucked in the beginning, but you adjust.
The cuts are the hardest.
Does it have better personal benefits?
Can you negotiate a little higher to be a little more comfortable? Or, would it be a struggle year and next year hopefully a raise to get you back to a little comfortable?
Everyone is different, I rather have time vs money. No one ever says they wish they worked more.
You will regret the financial setback. Your raises will be 2-3%

A pay cut could be worth it if it helps with mental health and WLB
This all depends on the individual and their long term priorities. Do you have hobbies or other interests you’d want to do outside of working hours that would warrant a salary decrease? If so, then consider it. Money is important, but not at the expense of your mental health.
If you think you’d be drastically happier, as long as the new job still would result in you paying your bills, I would take it. No amount of money would make up for being miserable or working like a dog.
No one knows the future or how you will advance at the new place. Sounds like the focus is on the pay cut vs the new WLB, and maybe less hours will equate to a higher hourly rate. I accepted a position once that was meant to be short term, contract. that turned into a permanent opportunity with a promotion and a 70% pay increase after being there only 90 days. I couldn’t have seen that coming when I accepted it initially.
I have reached a place in my life where money is not the ultimate deciding factor. Yes, I’m fortunate that I saved aggressively and live well below my means so a 15% pay cut would be a minor blip at this point. I’ve worked like a dog, too many hours, under too much stress for too many years that I decided early on that my health, family time, and enjoyment were the most important.
You can’t buy back time or your health or the special moments with your nearest and dearest that were missed.
Maybe the new job will lead to unseen opportunities or free up time for a side hustle. There are countless ways to earn a buck.
I love your last paragraph ❤️
Will your bills still be covered? Will u drop to a lower tax bracket and save that way? Run the #s.

My bills would still be covered yes but I’d have to make personal cuts. I could afford it but not comfortably
Are you going to publicly traded company or private? If publicly traded company, dont take paycut. Deadlines are taken seriously and reporting will be robust. If private company, maybe paycut is ok if you desperately needed to get out of PA
Chief
It’ll be for a private company, so sounds like it could be a good option for me?
Will you get a better bonus or stock options or a better 401k match or better health insurance? All things to think about
Those are great points and someone else said to run the tax savings. Would there be a change in commuting or daycare, as well? Asking OP.
If you can afford it the small cut is worth way more in the benefits you’ll get from work life balance in my opinion
Ok
You have a lot of time until next busy season. You can take your time finding a role where you would have no regrets later on.
I would not take a pay cut unless I absolutely HAD to. I did that one time, and it came back to haunt me in the form of questions in subsequent interviews as to why I was willing to take a pay cut.
