Pay everyone more than they deserve because the CEO is probably still making 100x that amount.
I think it should be mostly based on experience. With that said, a remote worker can be a win-win as the company might be able to pay them a little less than a local employee and they might get more than their local market.
Follow up question. Should someone living in a cheap suburb make less than someone living downtown in that same market?
Much trickier question. I was only speaking to the easier to answer suburb vs downtown question.
I guess whatever the SF firm and Idaho worker agree to is probably what's fair. There's a tendency to think this screws over the SF workers, but I'd argue much less top talent lives in Idaho so the firm takes on risk with a brute force approach.
I think location should be a contributing factor to salary especially in HCOL cities
I agree. It def has to be factored in.
If office rent, consumer rent and housing prices vary between New York and Richmond, I don't see why salaries wouldn't.
Absolutely, especially if you're commuting.

If the industry went fully remote, not necessary. If people can live wherever they want the cost of living in the populated cites will drop.
