Company directly if possible. If it’s a close call on who to hire, the company could give the tie breaker to the candidate that isn’t attached to a recruiter fee.
Use a recruiter. They are personally invested in getting you the job and will negotiate on your behalf. I've personally gone that route and it worked out much better.

Always direct. Recruiters failed their first career choice and are just trying to push people into any role possible for the commission, regardless if it's the right fit or not. Plus, the recruiter fee may eat into your final salary offer.
I’d do a recruiter. HR feels like they don’t work for the company and act like gatekeepers. My old tax department had to work around HR for hires.
I think it is really hard to get through the AI or automatic resume review. Something you don't even know if a real person reads your resume.
Honest self assessment is needed from you. No time for BS. If you are confident and good at selling yourself then go solo. If not, go recruiter. This is the answer. Period
Just want to provide an update. I applied several jobs last week, including one provided by recruiter. The only one I heard back is the one from the recruiter. So I do think the process is better with recruiter
