Since this may be on everyone's mind, let's talk about bonuses. Some companies offer annual bonuses and some companies try to offer bonuses when they can. The question is how are they determined?

Are they tied to company or individual performance? Are they targeted to a percentage of salary. What happens in lean years? Do they offer non-monetary perks? Which would you prefer?

Progressive does a bonus for every employee that is tied to company performance, and also based on a percentage of your salary. This year our company did just about as good as it possibly can do. The best bonus you can get is a 2 and ours was a 1.99. Roughly translated for claims adjusters most got around 10 to 15 K pre-tax. While supervisors got at least double that. Sounds great but 1 because it’s a capital gain and it’s based on profit-sharing they automatically take 22% in federal tax plus all the other deductions which leaves all of us getting only 50% of the money we earned. And two, it is common knowledge that of all the carriers they pay the worst so it really is just the pay They should be giving you all year in your salary wrapped up with a tax bow at the end of the year.

The best bonus I received was $9,900 and my manager acted like she was doing me a favor. Reviews have to be complete and submitted by year end, so any increase and bonus are paid beginning with the March 15th pay. I hear you about the ratings and the people who don't know what we do try to find all of our mistakes in our work to avoid good ratings. Gawd forbid we get any praise for a job well done.

I think every company is different but I sincerely think we keep the company going and should get one yearly. We have earned it!

Exactly my thinking! If it wasn’t for us the company wouldn’t have anything. One person can not do what we all do.

That very much depends on the company. Sometimes they are individual performance based, and sometimes they are team. I would love to get a bonus of any sort in my role haha.

I won't get lost on the details either - I would just take the bonus!

Mostly determined by who you know and office politics
