McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

Hi, happy to help. I’m off for dinner with friends and family so I’ll be short but can answer follow-ups later.
1) Strategy, tech, and business transformation. I expect “laugh” flair on this comment from people here who might take issue with that :)
2) GM is basically the top and roughly equivalent to a partner or senior partner. GM is the top of the food chain in our local markets, then there are geo regions above that, and we have several global teams not tied to a geography that also have GMs.
It’s possible our _Build side still uses Solution Principal, but we generally deprecated that title when we moved to a new title and role framework this year. Our new titles should be pretty close to other consulting firms within a level or so, but won’t be exact.
3) Such a huge question it’s hard to say. We tier our markets by cost of labor as you would expect. Conventional wisdom is that we pay less than similar firms with the trade-off that our consultants really do (with exceptions of course) do work 40-45 hour weeks. The stories I read on this bowl from people at other firms, regarding the hours they work and how they interact with their team leaders, just don’t happen here.
I will say there are less mature markets (less than 3 years old) within Slalom that focus on staff Aug work. Those markets tend to pay less than Accenture/Deloitte.
1. We don't do large SI projects and we don't have the breadth Accenture has in the non technology functions. But yes, we are very much a cloud implementation and tech services company with a growing business strategy focus.
2. Associate Consultant -> Consultant -> Sr. Consultant -> Principal -> Sr. Principal -> Director -> Sr. Director -> MD -> GM
3. Our pay is comparable to Accenture.
SC5, it really depends on skillset. We have quite a bit of Accenture folk who I am certain have not taken a pay cut.
Any insights into Account Director roles? Are these purely sales, or do the involve a consulting component?
