Everyone covered it. One month olds set their own schedule, you are at their mercy. Circadian rhythm doesn't really start to develop until 3-4 months
Yes, try to put him/her to sleep with a full belly and a new diaper. Not much more you can do, but sleep duration will increase at about 8-10 weeks in age. Hang in there... this phase is really hard but passes quickly. And congrats.
Cry it out is for kids close to 1 year.
For one month old make sure there is no issue. They would wake up between 2-3 hours for a feed. No way around it.
If less than that make sure they are fed properly , bed is comfortable, not feeling gassy etc.. if crying check for colic.
Wait to 5 or 6 at least for sleep training. We bought the taking cara babies program and it worked great. She has another program for younger infants around more just healthy sleep habits vs. actual training. Not sure how good it is, but I’ll probably buy it when the next kid comes just based on experience with the sleep training program.
Snoo
Second the SNOO. We call it the magic machine
try this dvd... happiest baby on the block... get from Amazon. worked for all my 5 kids
If there are 2 parents at home during this time, make sure you’re going out of your way to support each other. If mom is breastfeeding, make sure partner is doing maximum housework / cooking / baby walks during the day to let her rest, because she’s the one who has to get up at 1am / 4am / whatever to let partner work during the day.
By 2-3 months you should get some longer stretches of sleep. Just hold fast until then.
Courage!
Agree with others that at 1 month you need to figure out root cause. Research cluster feeding. Full belly eliminates 1 of the 3 main variables. For us it was dirty diapers (variable 2). We had to balance larger diapers to hold more with too large that leaked. I was pretty engaged with both my kids at this age. Happy to talk more if you want. Some of key variables are sensitive like breast vs. bottle feeding etc.
