SPG platinum gets you some low-tier status benefits on Delta and Marriott Platinum gets you United Silver status. Hilton of course allows you to earn both points and airline miles if you choose.
I maintain AA Exec Platinum, given their roughly 80% market share here in PHL, and use my Marriott Plat status to make flying UA more bearable as a backup carrier. Delta isn’t much use to me as the ATL hub is out of the way for most of my travel and I never go to JFK.
Flyertalk is a great resource for understanding how maximize value on the myriad of programs, as well as gaining knowledge of the more esoteric aspects of them.
Fellow Philadelphian here, hello. Is there a need to change? Like Marriott, Hilton has a lot of properties so there often will be one near where you have to go most of the time. If you travel mainly to city centers, then Hyatt and SPG become more feasible as well if EY has corporate discounts at each.
SPG is also more feasible in general now post-merger as you can earn at Marriott properties though there is some risk in that they are planning to redesign and merge the SPG and Marriott points programs in about a year and that could always come with a significant devaluation. Those programs remain separate and without much change today.
For Hilton? Try out their curio properties. But can also never go wrong with just Hilton’s
Hilton points are worth far less than SPG points so Starwood is a big upgrade. But I fear the coming devaluation as well to the much less lucrative Marriott program. However, this is still better than Hilton’s and offers just as many locations.
Thanks for this! Any relationship/"synergy" to know about between Airlines and hotels or totally separate lanes? I'm a comfortable traveler but defer to the experience on FB!
