Get your TSH levels checked out. Not a great idea to share unless you have a good, personal relationship with your manager. you can ask them for guidance/advice on how to manage the overwork, better prioritize, work style tips etc but generally not a good idea unless you have a sense of timeline of improvement or a discrete event or reason that you can justify your performance.
Advice I received that was helpful— figure out what your needs and priorities are that aren’t being met and and address the ones that are energy builders that will help your mood, feel more resilient and more like yourself. Maybe that is chatting with friends or family x’s a week, working out and watching tv for 30 minutes, reading a book for 15-30 minutes for leisure, going out for an hour by yourself to do something you want to do, etc.
Maybe I will try to read for leisure, but I end up feeling guilty because I am behind on things, or there is so much that needs to get done around the house…
Therapy can help a lot. It definitely helped me. I wouldn’t share anything with my manager personally unless they were bringing up performance issues. Even then, I may just share that I am ironing out some things with the transition to a new location, have identified the source(s) and have a plan to move forward better. Talk to your therapist, not the manager, unless it’s things specific about your performance for work. Nothing else is your manager’s business.
Be gentle with yourself. Moving is tough ESPECIALLY a big move across the country. It’s like moving to a new country. Give yourself time and space to acclimate. Focus on doing some things you love every day or at least every week. And give yourself kudos and treats even for the little things. You’re doing a great job. You got this!
Thanks. I did use your phrase “I am ironing out some things related to my location transition”
Therapy can help a lot, but you’re missing another part of the picture, what are you doing to alleviate your stress? Are you going to the gym? Are you exercising, are you meditating? Whatever that is for you you need to start doing it now because that will start to alleviate your stress, the stress that you’re causing your body And it will help your sleep. Are you sleeping OK?
It sounds as if, OP, you moved across the country for your spouses job, is that correct?
If I think about it, not much to relieve stress. I sleep fairly well. Hubby is retired, so we moved for some other reasons…
Hi
Hi
Mentor
blood test for thyroid, vit D, iron, ferritin, magnesium, glucose, cortisol, vit B, sex hormones
sex hormones for women should be taken strictly on 3-5th day of a cycle
Yeah need to find a pcp out here…last year all tests were fine…
I would try to figure out what's going on before telling your manager, I find it's easier to help staff when there are some concrete steps I can take or accommodations I can make. Aware that might not be easy but a therapist is a good place to start. I have had similar struggles too and I have a strong feeling there is some undiagnosed ADHD, which is compounded by hormonal fluctuations and stress. Just acknowledging this to myself has helped me manage things – I used to berate myself for not being able to stay on top of things but now I realise that maybe my brain is just different and I need to approach things differently rather than feel that I am failing (and oh what a horrible feeling that is). Your situation might be very different but sharing in case that helps. Try not to blame yourself. Relocation is a big deal and it puts a lot of pressure on you!
I don’t think I have adhd, I am typically a super high performer (lol and I am quite past hormone fluctuations) and I’ve got buckets of stress. I have had a few days to think about things, and I just think I need some extra tools to help me cope with everything. I sincerely appreciate the share.
