Does this co-worker have insight that you don’t? If they aren’t Senior Mgmt they’re likely just doom and gloom.
That sounds very superstitious, unless I’m misunderstanding. 10/10 would not take advice from this person.
So… they are sharing information about the organization’s cash flow. The 3 types of people who have this type of information. 1) accounting / finance 2) senior leadership 3) growth (people who bring business in. Your coworker married or best friends with someone like this ?
Is your coworker a jerk ? Have they ever helped you in the past ?
Regardless of your answer, I highly recommend keeping your resume updated. I update once or twice a year. I keep my LinkedIn profile updated and add connections when I meet new people.
I search for jobs once or twice a year to understand the job market.
If you network / connect regularly, then changing jobs is easier.
I have been laid off twice. And I have left jobs that over time did not fit my skills… once I left because of my manager.
Regularly networking helps me stay emotionally regulated … so that conversations don’t bother me.
One strong signal of layoffs… people stop talking with you or they communicate less. This could also mean that everyone is busy.
When my manager decreases communication, I always ask what is happening. I knew that I was getting laid off because my manager did a lot of tap dancing and would not clearly answer my questions. I was laid off 3 weeks later.

yes (Law)
Are you talking about compensation?
Is the assessment based on market factors of the area of law you’re in? Or your specific company? Understanding that will help you decide what to do next.
