How much do big 4 FDD partners make all in?
More Posts
Good morning. I am currently a senior associate in BugLaw, and I have applied to several trial attorney jobs in Chicago offices of federal agencies since the start of the pandemic. According to usajobs.gov, my applications to the DOJ and CFTC were “referred,” and my application to the SEC was received and my GS scale verified. But I haven’t received any updates on these applications in over a month. Does anyone here have any insights on these or on federal hiring generally? Thanks!

Yes. We all started around the same time. It has definitely come up.
Same in my area!

I don’t feel it’s really talked about between my coworkers. But I don’t think a company should be able to “not allow” us to talk about it. My salary is my business and if I want to discuss it, that’s for me to decide.
Yes. So they can’t not allow you to talk about it. But they don’t love it because it can be a sore subject if your coworker makes more money than you do. Or if you make more than them.
While it’s considered ‘taboo’ to discuss finances, I also believe it was a scare tactic instilled in the workforce to keep wage equality a dirty little secret. The only way you know what the going rate is for your position, at your job with your experience is to compare salary with colleagues. The conversation might not be pretty but! It’s real and becomes a bargaining tool in the future whether at your job or somewhere else.
But to each their own and not everyone is ready for that conversation.
Oh 1000% back about 10 years ago my cousin and her husband help the same position at Walmart and she was way more qualified. They were both high up on the Walmart chain and she sued Walmart after finding out how much less money she made. They also started literally a month apart from each other to their new role and such. But it’s so crazy!
I tried but people are so secretive about it ; I even have friends that I work with who refuse to share their pay - but I am always open to share, that’s how I found out new hires were making more than me as a tenure rep
Oh wow! Yeah it is hard to hear. But that it the nature of things.
I told my co-worker my salary who subsequently told others in the team… the following week my manager booked in a meeting with me and said I can’t do that as it’s a competitive team.
It’s actually against the law for companies to say you cannot talk about your salary with your colleagues.
Yes. Exactly. I hope you reminded your manager that. I get that they don’t like it because it can lead to animosity and anger and such. But they have to realize as a team grows and bonds it’s bound to happen.
No most not comfortable talking about pay.
Me and my coworkers are close and we talk about it!
We’re not supposed to but some people do with their close friends
HR says it is frowned upon but there isn’t an actual policy for it so🤷🏻♀️
I only discuss it with my closest friends, coworkers. I wouldn’t be able to deal If I learned, somebody else got paid more than me that I deemed on the lower level than me.
Yes this is hard! But I was able to negotiate a raise because of others poor performance compared to my own
I wouldn't necessarily try to keep it a secret, but it's really not ever come up.
Good to know!
We talk about it - and pay discrepancy is huge. Does that change the equation when it comes time to talk about raises? Nope.
Oh for sure! We talk about it too. But I was able to negotiate a raise based on my performance compared to those with higher salaries
I don’t discuss my pay because sometimes I do stupid stuff and I don’t want to be judged that I’m being paid too much.
HEHEHEH this comment made me laugh because I can relate. I'm always telling people don't ask me because I may tell you the wrong thing haha.
Why would I need to? Salary ranges are public knowledge and based on someone's experience and tenure, you generally know where they are in that range.
Yeah. Maybe.
I’ve tried to but my coworkers are too tight-lipped. They won’t say a damn thing.
Wow!
Yes, all the time.
Same.
