Spent $11K on drywall/paint and the job was A) not done and B) poor quality enough to where I’ve spent another $10K to finish.

Contract is extremely vague (drywall/paint work at X house)

Chase didn’t approve my claim — would a lawyer help?

Contractors just suck lol my husband is a doctor and he just does everything house related himself because we've always gotten ripped off as well and somehow he does a better job than these "pros" :( sorry OP

Lawyer will be to expensive. Take it to small claims and handle yourself. You'll want any pictures of the work done before as well as an affidavit from the guy you paid to fix.

like

Yeah probably but even 5k would be greater than 10k minus lawyer fees

That’s the problem with skilled labor in this country. The endless opportunities to make money lure in a lot of mediocre skilled labor that can’t really do a good job but they see the pros demanding $500 a room painting which takes them 3 hours and they suddenly want to do the same.

I am friends with some contractors and they tell me painting is one of the most lucrative jobs. It’s in and out and low risk, and very cushy, compared to other jobs like a full bath remodel.

like

Also, a lot of people with felonies on their records go into trades because employers won’t hire them.

Can you dispute the result of claim?

Have you tried the Better Business Bureau? Or letting the contractor know you’re going that route unless they correct the work?

What state?

Saint Louis (City), MO

If I'm adding multiple people to purchase a property but not on the mortgage, when do they get added - do they need to already be on the purchase agreement? I heard it's easier to do upfront vs. adding them later. I've asked this question in a thread but didn't get a clear response. If someone could please help clarify - how do I add other people on the onset on buying a property? This is a new build, buying directly from the builder.

From a financial standpoint in this market, which would be a better approach in Austin -

1. Buy a ~8-850k house that meets most of our ideal criteria (size, schools, interiors etc) to stay long term

2. Buy a ~5-550k house that’s not ideal with the plan of moving into an ideal home in 4-5 years when kid is ready for school.

How easy is it to get a mortgage for the second home?

Household income - 300k

Happy to add more details as needed
