Also depends on where you utilize your suite nights. I used points to book a standard room at the St. Regis in NYC (at the time ~$650/night) and used a suite night and was upgraded to a room that was going for approximately $2100/night. It's harder to get a free upgrade at St. Regis' as it is let alone the at the one in NYC. Using one gave me over $1k. Just have to be smart about them.
Simple valuation formula, each of the alternative options are worth $100-400 ($400 is generous for more aggressive redemption of free night) suite upgrade generally ranges a MINIMUM of $100 per night x10 = $1k valuation.
Suite Nights, no brainer
I'm usually upgraded to a suite when I stay on wknds anyway though.
The way I look at it, we travel enough that the EQNs are worthless, have enough points that free nights are worthless. Suites are the only value.
What's eqn?
@M why do you say so?
@D1 elite qualifying nights
I'd take the free night
Yes EQNs are worthless. I usually get upgraded to suite too, so i dont know. Thanks for all of your input
Suite nights - agreed
I took the free night. Just used it on a stay that would have cost me 16k points
FYI you can double upgrade using suite nights. I used suite nights on my honeymoon and they upgraded me on top of that. Stayed in a Grand Suite for the cost (i.e. Points) of a standard king room
Would you have paid that $1k for the suite @k1? If not then you didn't really get any value
