Maybe you should bill ...

Thanks. I assume the partner will just write the extra time / cost off the invoice to the client.

...long since finished, is it too late to ask for this non charge code to update utilization number? Would the partners care / push back? KPMG strategy if it matters. Asking for friend. Just found out from him or I would have told him to ask for code at the time. It’s close to their year end and he’s very nervous about low utilization number. TIA

Uhh are performance reviews under way? Theres a cut off to submit this stuff.

Good to know. I don’t have all the info but will talk to him about it this weekend.

Someone at my firm was fired for billing to the client when asked to bill to a non charge code. Tell your friend to be careful

Thanks C1. In this case he wasn’t given a non charge code, but I don’t think he knew to ask. Hopefully he can get one set up and put the rest of his time there. I just wasn’t sure if this still reflects back on the partner and therefore they might resist doing it. The opportune time to request the code was when he was asked to not charge all his time. I get that partners don’t want to charge everything to the client, but that decision shouldn’t affect his utilization.

I romanticized being a consultant while working in industry. Then I got a consulting job, a couple promos, and now the idea of consulting just makes me roll my eyes. I love the pay and I don’t mind working hard, w/ long hours, but the “business of consulting” is exhausting (e.g. maintaining utilization, selling engagements, 6k iterations of a deck, etc). Great company, great co-workers, and interesting engagements.... I can’t be the only one feeling this way. Time to exit or is this a phase?

I'm currently a second year analyst heading for promotion at a T2 firm. I'm also interviewing with MBB in the coming weeks. My goal is to apply for MBA programs in a year or two from now. What would be the best work experience for my applications? Would it make more sense to stick with my firm and start taking on more responsibility as a consultant / associate? Or would it make more sense to start from square 1 at a better brand (MBB)
