Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Guys there’s this boot camp that I came across that trains people to get jobs in Top consulting firms and has a fee plan wherein you pay once you get placed. I just wanted to know if someone here has any experience with this ?

Why do you need to connect with people. Do your job and move on with your life. Don’t get how this is so hard for people. You don’t need physical connection to do business development. All of this can happen remotely without you ever meeting anybody
Are you me? I’m having the same anxiety.
I started during the pandemic and made a few connections with people doing coffee chats. Overall, a pretty lonely experience.
Slack actually helps. We have channels for more icebreakers and hobbies. They have huddle so you can go VOIP or camera to “hang out” for a few min. You really have to push yourself to try and connect virtually. It’s difficult but possible.

Zoom has totally replaced these things
However there are some people who succeeded because of their good smiles and charisma. The pandemic has separated the doers from those who get to the top with smiles alone
Ok so these two traits are not mutually exclusive. I can be charismatic and/or model like and have brains too. Jokes apart, I am really not saying I want to exclusively work from an office. There is value in occasional in person meetings, that is all. Especially at the beginning.
Don’t worry. I change job and career on January 2021 and I have no issues connecting with people. I worked with my supervisor to gain a valuable mentor who is at an EVP level at my company. Participating pro-bono work and doing side projects with people outside of my circle helped a lot.
Interesting perspective. Didn’t say I couldn’t do the job. Electronic communications demonstrably are not always effective at building connections. Not saying they can’t be. Our world has changed and we are adapting to a different style of human interactions. IMO, people are less inclined to misjudge a person they met in person.
