Happened to me when I hit 3rd year manager. I was just so burnt out… I had been gunning it for 8 years without a break and the hours, travel, and crazy projects just wore me down. It reached the point where I was crying every day in the bathroom at the client. I was miserable. Talked to the partner and we brought in someone to backfill me, he fibbed on my roll off date so I had time to find something else (tried internal transfer and external options), I had my first ever time on the bench, and it was glorious. I did have one short project after that (in the south of France, so not bad) but I left Deloitte about a month into it for industry.

I feel you. On a toxic project with a client counterpart who has been sabotaging our work. Our leadership has enabled this behavior, provided no coverage and have caused constant firedrills. Every time we come up for air, we get battered. Morale is definitely in the pits. As a manager I regularly hold one on ones with my team to check in, to reassure them that this isn’t normal, to give them an opportunity to vent, then I highlight what they are doing that is great bc that is the only time positive feedback is shared. For myself, I focus on this being temporary and I focus on mentoring my team bc thats a highlight for me. My advice is to focus on the positives, remind yourself this is temporary and take some time off from time to time and actually unplug. Good luck OP.

I’m 11 wks pregnant and started this new project right as I got pregnant- it’s been such a tough project and I’m not able to keep up. I’m not sure what to do - I’ve totally fallen behind and am not sure how I’m going to be able to proceed. I need something slower paced. Do I tell them I’m pregnant or do I just keep trying to do my best. 😞

Something’s been weighing on my mind. I messed up in a steering committee & tripped infront of the Sr. Client Stakeholders. I made a few other mistakes and was rolled off by my manager (SM) b/c I sucked and it was a higher burn engagement he needed a stronger BA. Now I find out he might’ve been laid off and I can’t help but to think it was my fault. We never really talked after this engagement but I feel like it’s my clumsiness that him fired and it makes me feel guilty and give a me anxiety.

QUESTION -When you have a great passion project / bottom drawer idea that you keep bringing out and trying to bring back to life - ie you’ve had it in a couple of agencies - who owns it? It wasn’t for a brief, and it was worked on above and beyond the general hours of work. And it’s never been bought.

Ethical question: would you try to negotiate a raise in current job if you know you’re actively looking elsewhere? Context: had an incredibly challenging year with a huge project that completed successfully. Extremely complex tasks and long hours. Got an award for “disruption” but in summary, the role evolved and now I want to ask for market adjustment /as well as merit raise. I also hate what I do at the moment and can’t wait to leave, but might take months. Should I still ask for a raise?

I’ve been working for my client for about a year and love my projects and client team and have had strong performance-however my team running the PMO is disorganized, burnt out, and teetering on the verge of a major mishap if the trend continues. I’m looking elsewhere but have a strong relationship with our client leadership contacts…..how would I float the idea of them taking me client-side?

Has anyone else found HR timelines to be a crawl during all of this year? Top 5 bank or smaller bank, it’s totally glacial pace, it doesn’t matter. I try to normally be engaged and quick with stuff client side or internal stuff but it truly blows my mind how slow HR is on things. Like if I was to be this slow client side, I’d be fired. Does anyone have similar experiences over the past year?
