I hear you, people don't realize how incredibly demanding it can be to work as a teacher. We're woefully underpaid, constantly stretched thing and being asked to do more with less, we take our work home and constantly receive complaints from parents who don't understand why the children they pay so little attention to are struggling in school. We're babysitters, educators, event planners, and so many other things. You just gotta find your little moments of escape and try to decompress when you can.

I think the difficulty is allowing yourself to enjoy those little moments without feeling guilty or undeserving.

Massages, spa days, etc., are all valid and wonderful, but on a day-to-day basis, here’s where the old adages apply:
1. Count to 10 before you say anything. Allow your prefrontal cortex’s brakes to engage so you don’t lose your job telling a parent what you really think. 🛑 🤔
2. You are adult. When dealing with the kids, don’t sink to their level. Say to yourself, “I am the adult. I am the adult.” Say it as many times as necessary until you can control what comes out of your mouth. 🤐
3. Disengage. When dealing with toxic staff, sometimes it’s best just to leave ASAP. Here’s when a little white lie may come in handy. “Oh, dang! I forgot to get that email out to admin! Gotta run!” Or, look at your phone and say, “Oh, my wife/husband/kid is calling. I gotta take this.” Everyone’s phone is on silent anyway, so they won’t know there’s no one calling. 🤥
4. Choose a mantra and repeat as needed until calm. “This too shall pass… this too shall pass.” 🧘
5. Call in sick—sick of kids, sick of colleagues, sick of parents, sick of work. 🤮
Good luck!🍀
I know it's difficult at this time of year, but you need to try and find some way to destress. Can you take a day during the weekend, or maybe even a few hours and get a massage? A spa treatment? Maybe just get outside in a quiet place away from everyone and everything for a little while? Sometimes that's what I have to do to keep from snapping at a pushy parent, or even my own kids. We get a break from it in a few months, just hang in there until then.
Rising Star
I definitively need a massage, I am in so much pain and stressed!
It's okay if your lessons aren't Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpieces at this point. Focus on getting through the content and keeping the kids engaged.
