Simple google search shows: 1) depends on the state; and 2) “property” means community property, which included real estate, stocks, etc.
I’m not a divorce attorney but the distinction between what is community and independent property is when that certain asset was acquired. Generally assets acquired after marriage would be property.
Independent property would include all assets, bank, cash, etc. (not cars). I don’t think the definition of “property” changes based on independent vs community.
In my state property is all assets in the marriage. So real estate and stocks would count.
If anyone has a paralegal/service company contact who help to understand and file for divorce, that will also help. Internet search is yielding a lot but not always in-business or reliable!
Just hire a lawyer.
