Is the mega backdoor Roth looking like it’ll survive into 2022 at this stage?

No one knows at this point. Obviously pointing out also that it does not matter if you are at EY

funnylike

I think it’s eliminated for all income levels in the current house version.

like

They’re currently in. I hope it’ll get pulled, but no one knows.

If you want to keep the Backdoor or Mega Backdoor intact, please consider contacting your representative and making your opinion known!

like

I have a hunch they already know, but certainly can’t hurt. Problem is that a relatively small portion of the population use them

like

If it does, what’s the next best option? Taxable account?

like

Crypto is a capital asset to the IRS, and now taxed the same as securities

like

Thank you! Ugh I hope it doesn’t get eliminated. In any case I’m putting in basically my whole paycheck for the rest of the year just in case.

Thanks

I still don't understand the appeal of Roth, won't I be making less and then getting taxed less in retirement?

like

For me it’s what EY1 said. I’m putting in 19500 pre tax into my 401k and then putting additional funds that would otherwise go into a normal brokerage into Roth (money that I’m fine not seeing until retirement). I’m nowhere near maxing out my limit on the Roth since it’s so high

like

Glad someone started this thread, I’ve been trying to find sources online that might shed more light on the latest status, but everything looks to be roughly two weeks old at this point. Does anyone know of a good resource that we could go check once they’ve determined whether this provision to eliminate back door roth and mega backdoor stayed in?

like

There is no new status. It is in the bill from the house but no idea if it will stay there in the Senate.

I racked up about $20k in credit card debt due to a confluence of things happening at once (move, school expenses , etc ). I have a fair amount of paper assets but not a much free cash. Assets are down a decent amount with the current market cycle and I’d prefer not to sell them to cover the debt , although they easily could. Any suggestions how to handle the credit card debt without racking up tons of ongoing card interest?

Curious for everyone’s thoughts on real-estate right now.. my spouse and I are in Denver and trying to buy our first home. To get a halfway decent 3BR home, we have to spend upwards of 500k and still put a little work/investment in to update the home.. I can’t help but feel we should be waiting for 6 more months and seeing if the price drops.. I want to take advantage of the low rates right now, but can’t believe a half million still requires further investment to update the home.

I made a mistake starting SIP in a ULIP. Used to invest 7500 per month starting from November 2018. I have discontinued my premium payments since last year. That is when my fund was moved to an interim surrender state and now it earns 4% per annum interest.

After 5 years of lock-in that is November 2023, can i withdraw the entire amount at a time? (Of course after paying surrender charges)

I have an idea for an investment-type thing but am trying to figure out what price point would be attractive to your “everyday” affluent but not 1%er family (I’m talking the 3%ers like myself). If you fit that demographic and were offered a solid investment opportunity with a guaranteed annual yield of 8% and an appreciation of the underlying asset of at 3%, how much would you be willing to invest in it without stressing too much? 10k? 25k? To be clear, not seeking investors here.

I’m 25 and have found a duplex I’m considering purchasing as a rental property. Planning on renting both units and have the cash to make the down payment without an issue. My cash flow analysis has a payback period of 3 years for my down payment and a 13 year payback period for the whole investment. I think financially it makes sense. Thoughts on Marcus vs. Ally vs. Wealthfront? Looking for a place to park my emergency savings

Fishes honest opinion needed. Me and My so presently live in Arkansas, living in our first home with a child 4 year, both of us recently changed our jobs and have HHI ~ 420K, current mortgage 1600/month. We are looking to move to Dallas and thinking of buying a house ~996K with a 15% down. Questions -
1. Should we go for house of that budget? We can afford, but asking based on market.
2. Should we down 15% or just 5% ? Or go for 20% ?
