I think it is important to have a good relationship with the suppliers that we work with. If we are constantly putting them on the defensive, it is going to be difficult to get them to cooperate and work with us. We need to be able to work together to get the best results for our company.
I think it is important for a supply manager to be able to have a good relationship with their suppliers. If a supplier feels like they are being attacked or taken advantage of, they may not be as willing to work with the company in the future. By defending the supplier, the supply manager can ensure that the relationship stays strong and that the supplier is more likely to provide quality products and services.
I think it is important to be fair and unbiased when it comes to the suppliers I am assigned to. I believe that if I am defending the company I work for, it could come across as being biased and not fair. By defending the suppliers, I am able to maintain a fair and unbiased relationship with them.
I asked the same question to one of the KAM in my team. I think it is all about playing good cop bad cop thing. No?

Oftentimes I find that our internal teams like to bash on external partners/suppliers and pile on the criticism when a vendor screws up or drops the ball. When internal hiccups happen, the same group of folks stay awfully quiet…
As many have mentioned, it’s a partnership and should be treated as such. These same vendors/suppliers are going above and beyond to save our A** when we screw up. Certainly a give and take.
