Currently a senior, working hard to promote Manager in a year/two. Firm wants to submit PERM with EB3 senior position and said no promotion should be taken until getting I140. Only less than 2yrs left on H1B. Getting 140 can take very long and don’t want to delay career progress. Is this even right, why cannot file PERM for a future position? What can I do now? I asked for revised compensation from infosys based on parallel offer letter and got below response:
Compensation is determined for various roles, based on the competency and the experience a candidate comes in with. We also look at ensuring parity amongst any other internal employee with similar competency.  Considering these facts, we will not be in position to change compensation.
Please advise how to negotiate further.

How bad is the staffing shortage at firms right now? At current firm (mid-tier) seeing good people held back from being promoted due to not enough preparers. Other good people are constantly being overworked and slackers aren’t getting called out since leadership is afraid of losing a body. Is this true for other bigger firms (Big4, GT, BDO, Baker Tilly, Moss Adams) too right now? If so, how are you avoiding being overworked?

Some new associates have done such bad job that no senior wants to give them work. Those people get to go home at 4 and other associates have to take additional projects. It seems very unfair

Just got into a full time grad program for international affairs that starts in January of 2021. (completely changing careers). I need to stay working at my firm until then and possible after to get the billable hours for my CPA. I passed all 4 exams and I refuse to give let that go to waste...... how do I tell my employer I'll be going to school in a way that they'll still let me work part time? Smallish firm that just merged with another smallish firm. We're switching tax software and about 3/4 of my team is anxious about any change after a couple of roller coaster years full of changes already (pre-merger and unrelated to it.)

Anything you recommend to ease the transition? If it makes a difference for your advice, staff is on the older side. They had buy in on the software and plenty of demos and time to check it out and test it etc. But implementing it is making them anxious
