The most dangerous stage of a business is when it kind of works.

Money comes in, but not predictably. Deals close, but only with pressure. The team stays busy, yet results rely on heroics.

This phase lies. It calls chaos “growth.”
Manual work feels temporary. Bad clients feel necessary.

Nothing hurts enough to fix.
Nothing runs well enough to scale.

So founders grind harder instead of building structure.
Companies don’t fail here.
They freeze.

Discipline is the exit.
Systems beat comfort.

Those are solid observations. I'm always wary of being in the zone of having things be "good enough." That's always a trap, it can provide a false sense of comfort and you can't realize things are going off the rails.

like

100% agree. “Good enough” feels safe, but it quietly taxes the founder.
That’s usually my signal to automate or systemize something. If a process only works because I’m watching it, it’s already a risk. Systems don’t get tired, distracted, or optimistic.
Once things run without you hovering, you see reality clearly.

Fellow introverts...can I only advance in my career if I take on a leadership role? The thought of this terrifies me. It doesn't help that he always presents outdated ideas and throws UX out the window. I know that I know my stuff and keep up with best practices. Hi all, I’d love to hear from PR/Comms folks about the process of transitioning from agency to an in-house role. What kind of chance does a PR pro with ~7 years of solid experience across CPG and hospitality brands, including a mix of global agency work and smaller boutique firms, have at going in house? Do you typically need more experience before going in house? Would be great to hear about various experiences from those that have made the transition. Thanks!

So, I just joined a startup. No processes, no clear strategy, just one goal: selling. Getting leads. When ever I try to build a strategy, they (founders) swamp me with blablabla stories and not a single action plan. Is this the usual at startups? Also,no real company culture. At all. No HR. I am reaaaally struggling to get a sense of belonging here. What should I expect?? Tia

Any craft beer brewers here?

In the last two year I’ve gotten more and more into alcohol free beer. The selection in my country (Europe) is still small and mainly driven by the big brands (e.g. Heineken). My idea is to start my own small brewery which only produces alcohol free beer as a bit of a pendant to the booming local craft beer industry. Friends, need some feedback on an idea:

I’m thinking of starting a podcast interviewing leaders at startups about their experience with specific challenges - I know, cliche, get a more original hobby, etc.

Not looking for the narrative arc of How I Built This or Masters of Scale. Instead, looking to uncover specific problems faced by companies that tried something new for the first time. What did they not see coming, how did they adapt and measure, etc.
