It's funny, I'm dealing with the exact same thing. I've been trying to do a lot of neck rolls and stretching. I've also been icing it, but if it doesn't get any better soon I'm going to have to see a physical therapist.
I deal with a lot of pain in my neck and upper shoulders because of my terrible posture. I use a heating pad for 10 minutes and then either give myself a massage or do myofascial release with a tennis ball. I'll repeat that a few times throughout the day and it really does help.
I use a foam roller and lacrosse ball for stretching/rolling after my shifts. It helps so much. The lacrosse ball freaking hurts, but it's super effective in loosening up knots. I've got a theragun too, but that's kind of hard to use on your upper body, so I pretty much only use it on my legs.
I am so sorry, I hate neck pain because it's the worst! Have you been to a Chiropactor? I usually go to one 20 times a year since it is usually part of my insurance benefits. This helps me a lot on neck and back pain.
This happens to me all the time. Usually after a few days it resolves but I have to take Tylenol in the mean time. If not, I end up going to the chiropractor.
