I don’t see it ever changing from the current process. There’s too many laws in place now requiring X amount of interviews before you actually hire somebody to avoid impartiality.
Years ago, even if you didn't know someone at the company, someone could do a brief interview with you, decide you had what it takes, and you were hired. Over the decades the hiring process has become institutionalized and that kind of individual decision making has been eliminated. Now it goes on for so long that no one person has to take responsibility. There are, of course, exceptions to that, you still run into a fair amount of nepo babies and others who are handed jobs. But the extended process is probably here to stay.
They probably won’t change for a while.
Meeting someone face to face has flaws, but also has huge advantages that can’t be replicated by other means.
My grandma went in to apply for a job in the 80s. Filled out an application, interviewed same day and walked out with a job. So they’ve been a thing for at least 40 years.
Interviews have been a part for the 15 years I've been in the workforce, and I'm sure they predate that, though I'm not sure exactly how much. Things aren't going to revert to the way they were in your dad's time in my lifetime. If anything, I'm expecting the interview process to become even lengthier and more drawn out than it already is.
