The struggle is wayyyy past "fake it til you make it". Contract role after contract role, and not a single one I had to apply for, the recruiters called me. But no offers for a full time role, despite applying while working, redoing my resume, learning new skills, networking, and reaching out. What's the puchline to the "job market"?

Where do I find these "Contract roles"?

I have my resume posted on several job boards and I stay open to recruiters, mainly when I get a call, they say they found my resume on monster. So, try monster.com

Contract roles are plenty, but none of them convert to full-time like they used to. Sign of the market, easier and less of a “buy-in” for companies right now, who are trying to pinch every penny.

It’s wishful thinking more times than not, but I would agree it’s more of a straight-up lie now. There is nobody they have to answer to. We are all just looking for any kind of work.

Evening! Dog owners who live in condo rentals downtown.. did you tell your landlord you had a dog? I’m in a rental with a lease that says no pets (i’m sure a common clause?) and i didn’t have any pets moving in. 6 months in, i got a puppy lol. I don’t want to invite potential conflict by updating my landlord, my lawyer partner says the no pets clause is void in toronto anyway - but I worry about a bad landlord reference if they find out i.e come for repairs.

Additional Posts in Career Pivot

I have been in Recruiting and HR for 11 years and thinking about making a career move. Ild love to hear from anyone that’s made a career move from HR to a different role.

Am I crazy? Currently interviewing at LEK, Oliver Wyman, and Deloitte strat for (essentially) entry level positions after working in biz dev at Microsoft for under a year. My friends say I’m crazy, need a reality check…

Does anyone have any recommendations of career coaches or where to begin to research legit ones? I’m a part-time MBA student at a top 25 program and have 13 years of work experience, mostly in government contracting, with a few deviations from the industry. I would like to use the MBA to make a career pivot, but I’m having a hard time choosing a path to target. I’d like to explore working 1-on-1 with a career/executive coach to help with this process.

I'm trying to figure out how to pivot out of my current job. My department is in utter chaos, which has just become completely unmanageable. I'm looking for front-end web design work, and work from home. I am a strong designer and basically set up landing pages for large companies on a proprietary CMS in our company. If anyone knows of places I could apply? I'm not trying to reinvent myself as I do artwork on the side and would rather grow that business and get out of the chaos of fortune 500.

Tough time getting past final step: I’ve been trying to make a career shift for 10 months now and continue to get rejected at the last step. Im confident in the value I can provide and do well at presenting it. However, once it’s comes down to me and 1-2 other candidates, I repeatedly have been turned down for the person who has more relevant experience as they’re a safer bet for the employer. Would love advice from anyone who’s dealt with this before. It’s tough to get them to take a risk on me

Does anyone have a career coach they would recommend? Preferably someone familiar with creative fields. I’m trying to figure out if I want to transition out of marketing.

Not sure whether to be honest or not in this situation. I have decided that I want to leave my job and do a masters degree. I’m planning to leave my job at the end of June, should I warn my boss now so she can start hiring? I don’t want her to be blindsided by my decision and hiring is very slow at the moment. Plus if they hire someone I can train the transition will be easier? But I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot if they were thinking or giving me a pay rise or promoting me?

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

I'm currently making a career pivot and have gained a significant amount of experience during my MBA but still a bit in that pivot stage.. Has anyone worked for or with any corporate VCs, VCs with some sort of business development or other support, innovation labs, incubators, or similar places that you enjoyed? I'm about to graduate from an MBA program and am looking for jobs in this space. I'd love any recommendations for places to check out! Thanks!
