Guys help me on this -

McKinsey & Company Hi all! Any fishes at BCG and/or McK have time to chat sometime within the next few days/weeks?
I’m a consulting analyst at Accenture, really interested in strategy work (mainly tech/software clients but open to all backgrounds) hoping to make the jump some time next year. I’d very much appreciate connecting to understand your journey with the firms and the work you do.
Thanks in advance, and happy holidays!

Understand your situation completely. You may benefit from professional counseling and/or taking some time off for yourself. Sadly, this business has more than its share of toxic bosses. My goal is to find a leader and work for them. I will never again compromise and work for a manager. I don’t need someone to look over my shoulder. I need someone who blazes trails,helps others by lighting the way and encouraging you to forge the river.
Are you me?
I am just freelancing until I find my forever advertising home. Seems to be a good way to vet the culture while making money.
Looks like we just started our own agency. Let’s call it “GTFO”
Understand that HR is there to protect the company not you. Any conversations that you have with them keep that in the back of your head. HR will do or say anything that placates you. Any real action has to come from evidence and lawsuits unfortunately.
Try another industry?
1000% was a product of a toxic manager—had nothing to do with the agency/work/industry. I love this industry and the work. First time in over a decade this has happened to me. This individual had zero work and personal boundaries.
@OP, was this at PS?
As for advice, honestly, the way you addresses this is approach companies where you can vet the culture and team more (eg know people already there, or managers via personal network recs).
And a new job is like a new relationship. Can't know everything. Leap of faith.
At my first agency job, my direct manager was absurdly toxic. He made myself, and a lot of other people within the agency, extremely uncomfortable for reasons both sexual and anger oriented.
I know this because there were at least 5 other reports to HR, just like the one that I filed. And yet, he remained there and nothing changed.
My only piece of advice, if you can, is to message some of the employees of the places you're interviewing and see what they have to say about the culture. Also, glassdoor usually has some juicy reviews that'll give you good hints.
Employers ask you for your references.. ask your potential new managers for theirs. Ask their references about their positive/negative traits as a leader.
