So I've been thinking about your question a bit... when I'm thinking about data analytics and crypto in terms of investigations/forensics, they are typically one element of the greater investigation/forensic project. Further, the client may not really know enough about what they really need/want as part of the engagement at the outset when they are finding and hiring the forensic firm. I'm not saying it's not possible, but it may be difficult attracting such a niche client base.
Also, a lot of the successful independent forensic consultants have strong relationships with law firms/attorneys that call on them. They also spend a lot of time writing articles/books and developing CPE training they offer (or get asked to develop and present). That's in addition to assuming you have several of the relevant credentials.
Its absolutely possible to be successful as an independent consultant in this space. But it takes quite a bit of relationship building and commitment to knowledge share topics. I hope this helps!
Thank you for your reply!
