Hello Gang, I’m on the business side for Walmart right now. Walmart Global Tech recently offered me a role to move to the San Bruno office, but I’d be taking a demotion from L6 to E5. YOE: 8, COMP(200k base, 25% bonus, 100k RSU). Is this competitive in the bay? I have Doordash and Instacart in the pipeline, but no final offers yet.

It’s hilarious how right the left has become
Ultimately, the left is right of the middle when you consider how right the middle is to the left, especially when compared to Europe which has more centrist-left, left-center, right-middle, and also more left, right, left, right, B, A, select, start.
Yes people, everyone knows that free speech in the constitution is specifically referring to the government not interfering with our speech but free speech as a society principle is what OP is referring. We used to believe that it was better to argue our sides instead of shut the other viewpoint down.
AD1 Yeah when “fascism” is defined as everything you don’t like.
Free speech isnt the same as socially acceptable speech. What is up with americans not realizing the constitution is a contract between the people and the govt not between all the people themselves
AD1, respectfully, isn’t all of that in the past? At least from a systematic and institutional perspective? What benefit does CRT bring to my young children’s generation? I was taught history in the 90’s in a transparent manner. I am all for educating our children on the failures of the past, but what exactly is the argument for CRT? There is no flexibility in that curriculum, the very act of questioning its philosophy is considered racism. “If you don’t agree with me, you are a racist” is not rational argument to me, regardless of the historical misgivings of societies across the globe. Why should our children in 2022 be burdened with the accountability of the mistakes of their great grandparents? Asking as a non-white man with mixed-race (half white) children.
No free speech as I complain about it online
The “woke left.” OP is an unserious person.

Freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences.
You are complaining that people don’t like your opinion. Maybe your opinion isn’t as beautiful and cherished as you think?

Went to GSB and doesn’t know what freedom of speech entails…
Yeahhhh time to move to Miami
As an entirely lefty myself with very right wing family in the south I would agree and say that I have witnessed the same amount of polarized lack of reason arguments from liberals as conservatives.
Even though I am strong left in all my politics I am amazed at the lack of logic or compassion from left wing as much as what I've seen in right wing.
So you can say things an a-hole would say but to preserve your free speech, I need to shut up and not say that you are speaking like an a-hole. Is that about it?
MXT Group 1, no you can say whatever you want. You just can’t try to censor or shut down people that are discussing ideas you don’t like.
I am here to drive shareholder value.

The political spectrum works in continuity. Go far enough either way and you become what you are fighting against
There’s nothing “woke left” about Stanford or SF. The former is one of the top conservative propaganda machines of all US universities, and the latter refuses to take care of its homeless people or fix its housing crisis and NIMBY scourge

Restriction of constitutional free speech is something only the government can do. What you’re referring to is a cultural issue which always swings back and forth. The Dixie Chicks lost their livelihood for speaking out against the Iraq War, for instance, but no one cared back then. Get your facts straight before you post dumb stuff like this.
US has free speech. It’s just less free than many other countries in social and work settings.
Since moving here I’ve really had to mind what I say at work in case someone has some ridiculous interpretation

^BCG3 unless you are at some socialist party event no one actually cares.
You’ve clearly said enough.
Great thread guys but the real question is, can you give me advice on applying to the GSB?
Yes

Freedom of speech is primarily protections from the government and its laws suppressing your ability to communicate thoughts and ideas. However, today, private companies have vastly more power over your ability to communicate and even functionally exist in the world. There's been an evolution of what can happen to you for saying the wrong thing.
What's particularly terrifying is saying the wrong thing not only getting you banned from primary communication avenues, but also payment processors and even entire financial institutions.
I don't know what the solution is. Social media is insanely powerful considering how carefully controlled and manipulated it is.
The right to free speech comes with the fact that you can be attacked with what you have freely disclosed or expressed publicly. Especially on topics that are political in nature. Expect that there will always be someone that will speak differently from your views. Because the same right is afforded to them.
This is exactly why I left San Francisco. It’s not so bad elsewhere.
You can say what you want in the US, but there are consequences of doing so. Companies are not the government and they can chose to fire you for any number of things.
Both Snowden and Asange leaked classified data - which is not protected by free speech. Apparently some new guy wants to test the bounds of government document classification as well... can't remember his name though...
Consider coming to the light side :)
