Just be aware the cost savings aren’t as much as you’d expect overtly. The influx of east and west (and third) coasters has pushed cost of living here through the roof vs. previously. The image of ATX as an undiscovered gem was dated many years ago. It’s pretty pricey here if you want to live in central ATX. And if you don’t, there’s no easy way downtown beyond a car. Think of ATX now as more like Atlanta than NYC. The big gift is the state’s lack of income tax, which can be invisible but means a ton for the smart. Don’t expect massive savings. Do your homework and don’t assume Pflugerville is like Brooklyn and an easy subway ride in,
Not really responsive to OP but…. I don’t feel that bed for your friend, that’s a nice piece of property!
Also a transplant from Brooklyn and agree that to truly maximize austin you’ll want to have a car for transport purposes to enjoy the outdoors the city has to offer. Downtown living will get very small in a short period of time after any sustained exposure to NYC
The job market anywhere is tough at the moment with so many companies doing layoffs. If you can keep your current job, then explore new opportunities passively that would probably be best! If you want to be near the action and as a 24 yo I would recommend the east side - it’s walkable and would be a good transition from NY. The Arnold is a good complex! There are also complexes on the river walk where a lot of young people live that are close to downtown- try 422 at the lake, amli south shore ( those are a bit cheaper than the downtown side).
East side is great. I lived at Residence at Saltillo. Right next to the Whole Foods and target was clutch and quiet at night. Bars are a few blocks away if u wanna go out. Lots of cool restaurants opening on that side too
Hey there! My wife and I made the same move from nyc to Austin two years ago. It’s def a different kind of city, but certainly enjoying it! In terms of neighborhoods, what are you looking for?
