Thoughts on managers (& up) who leave their Skype status on "Away" at all times?

Unless you're a partner it's just douchey to be always away or offline... basically you can see everyone else's status but won't share yours. Usually I find people who do this to be worse managers

like

Well it's dishonest for one. Plus if I ping I want to ensure my inquiry/statement is actually going to someone, not a wall. Busy and Do Not Disturb are there for a reason.

like

If it's important enough, email or call.

like

Sam in working with right now does this..been away for the last 8 days lol.

like

I do it. Helps to reduce needless IMs, I get pinged enough even with it set to away or offline.

like

It is amazing that this isn't a bigger issue on FB bc I feel like Skype status politics are 30% of my job

like

I'm proud of the lack of ACN participation in this thread.

like

@D2 why make the exception for partners ? They work the least anyway

like

If I see longer than 1 hour I know they're bullshitting. And ditto @D2

like

Why does it matter? If you have a question just shoot and they will let get back to question if they are available or send a email. Status of Skype being on away should not stop an email or message unless your impatient and want answer now.

like

What Ey3 and D4 said.

like

Isn't it so it wouldn't beep

If it's important enough call them. I know a lot of Non managers that do the same.

Jealous

Agree with EY3 100%. When I WFH and step away to shower or something, I block the time off in my calendar so that people can plan accordingly about when they can reach me directly and get a quick answer.

I'm a senior and I'm either never online or am away bc I'm always on site. Ppl got shit do. Send an email.

I'm perm away. Like others said, if it's really important pick up your phone. If not leave a message

Interesting, thanks all for the feedback! Just joined a new team & practice where the managers do this constantly, but SMs and Partners always have accurate statuses. Wasn't sure what the logic was.

I think that every team has a different culture

I was a Manager at a Big4 doing PM fed work earlier this year. I decided to join a small firm to pursue cloud sales. However, the position is extremely technical in nature and I'm required to speak tech ( kubernetes, openshift, CICD) to potential clients.
While I have learned from the exposure, I dont intend to continue in a tech role & looking to exit. I'm thinking of Customer/ Partner Success Manager roles with one of the CSPs. Are there other non tech cloud exit opps in industry to consider?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.
