-provided excellent customer service in unpredictable situations
-created trusting teamwork dynamic by flexibly supporting teammates in “rush” times
-enhanced listening skills by working with a variety of customers and communication styles
Been a waitress, not a telemarketer :)
Managed multiple workstreams from the toaster to the table.
F&B subject matter expert and customer success manager who increased local region profitability by x%. Transitioned to sales role where I increased revenue by y% and enabled more profitable sales by z%.
You guys are so good at this!! I was paired with her through this organisation called “every woman works” - their mission is to move women from dependency to self-sufficiency. If any of you want to put your incredible skills to more use, feel free to DM or reach out to them!
Id say 3 themes to highlight:
- waitress = customer service, ability to build relationships, abiiity to wear multiple hats (ie. fill multiple roles), withstand long hours & work hard
- telemarketer = perserverence, improvisation, sales experience
- this is a personal opinion but dont see the recovering addict as a hard negative .. especially if they are sincere about turning their life around and are showing the grit required to commit to that tough challenge (ie. recovery).
In this case, stories can sell better than skills & people generally feel a sense of personal satisfaction to help others in tough times (& giving others a chance to succeed)
Well I think it’s something she’s still really struggling with and working through. She’s definitely not in a position where she’s comfortable showcasing it yet (but I honestly hope that someday she will be proud of everything she has overcome). I’m just trying to help her build confidence and feel less insecure about her resume
I think showcasing how far she came tells a far more compelling story than what she has accomplished in those roles.
Rising Star
So if that’s her objective we need to first tailor her experience and story to the requirements of those jobs
Excellent client facing skills.
Able to have difficult conversations.
Able to flex style based on customer expectations
Beyond the resume - Create a cheat sheet to help them translate their experience - two columns - list all aspects and accomplishments on one side (waitress) then match that up with job posting requirements in the second column. (Customer service, conflict resolution)

There’s nothing worse than seeing a resume where they are trying to hide what the actual role was. There’s no sin in waiting tables. It’s great experience, with many skills that are transferable to higher level work. Just don’t obfuscate.
Haha yeah I posted this for amusement as much as for genuine help 😊
Worked in stressful (hostile) customers while always maintaining professionalism
Change waitress to customer engagement specialist
What’s the job for? Resumes shouldn’t be generic they should be tailored to the role you’re going for.
Lots of ideas above - emphasize communication, multi taking, customer service etc - but make them specific

Both client facing roles. Escalation management, dispute resolution
Focus on summary at top - and tell a story that showcases strengths that relate to position - hard worker, problem solver with exceptional customer reviews, etc. That will put the rest in perspective - Waffle House and Telemarketer are not weaknesses, they are gold standard for dealing with people. Same advice for those on call center - use to say something about you - work ethic, empathy, problem solving, active listening, flexibility to take on tough challenges to support the business.

A good way to think about it is how did they know they were doing a good job, and what were they doing that their coworkers weren't doing.
For example, did they suggest to change the way service was run that made it more efficient? Even if it's something small like the way the orders were put in to the kitchen that eliminated some errors.
