Tired of these companies interviewing for entry level designers asking applicants “where do you see yourself in five years” expecting over the top flattery of their organization while they don’t even want to pay close to 50k or rather have the resources to stay with them to get licensed nor offer a 401k or health insurance with little to nothing PTOs. How do yall expect us to stick around in this profession and pay off school loans?

In five years, I envision myself as a licensed professional, continually developing my skills and contributing to innovative projects. To achieve this, I require a supportive work environment that invests in employee growth and well-being. This includes competitive compensation of at least $50,000, comprehensive benefits such as health insurance and 401k, and reasonable paid time off. I expect opportunities for licensure support and professional development. I'm eager to collaborate and contribute to the company's success, but I also prioritize my own career growth and financial stability. Let's discuss mutual benefits and expectations to ensure a rewarding and sustainable partnership.

That’s a well put answer! Thank you for your input :)

I liiterally hate that question so much because I am not a person that even thinks that far into the future. I learned a long time ago that you can make all the plans you want to but they never go as planned. I think about today, tomorrow, and maybe the rest of the week and that is it.

Ok fine “the don’t want to pay close to 50k” was an exaggeration. Still, my point stands.

I have an associate's degree in graphic design and work designing wedding stationery. I've been at my company since 2016, and am now a design consultant - speaking to customers directly and creating custom artwork and designs for them. I know I'm underpaid (50k/year in the SF Bay Area) but I thought the benefits and stability were worth it. I'm now severely burnt out (most of my team is) and not sure which way to go, or how to grow. Any tips/advice?

Thanks!

Had 4 rounds of great interviews for a internal HC consulting sr mgr role at tech Org. Final/5th round was a presentation and I felt it didn’t go well because I followed instructions and created a solid strategy that was based on evidence and best practices from what other orgs are doing - exactly what the case asked but based on their questions it seemed they wanted some high in the sky creative ideas. Should I let it be or email them with some ideas while reminding them that I wanted to

Hi Designers,
Been working as an Assistant Technician for 3 years (2 years excluding pandemic) pay is £21k now £22 adjusted for inflation. I will be completing my Part 1 in architecture but also have a degree in Technology, should I find a different company after graduation or take roles offering £30-45k as an Architectural Technologist/Technician.

Does anyone know if Dwell Design in DC is a good company to work for?

I’m curious to know if anyone has experience working part-time in architecture? I have been working for large international firms in NYC for the past 10 years. So I work all day every day. My evenings and often the weekends are all absorbed by work duties. Working part-time would allow me to find a better balance, and carve out space for side gigs and eventually start my own firm. Any recommendations?
