Tired of these companies interviewing for entry level designers asking applicants “where do you see yourself in five years” expecting over the top flattery of their organization while they don’t even want to pay close to 50k or rather have the resources to stay with them to get licensed nor offer a 401k or health insurance with little to nothing PTOs. How do yall expect us to stick around in this profession and pay off school loans?

I have an associate's degree in graphic design and work designing wedding stationery. I've been at my company since 2016, and am now a design consultant - speaking to customers directly and creating custom artwork and designs for them. I know I'm underpaid (50k/year in the SF Bay Area) but I thought the benefits and stability were worth it. I'm now severely burnt out (most of my team is) and not sure which way to go, or how to grow. Any tips/advice?

It is so expensive to live here, I am struggling to make things work. Is this a normal salary for someone of my experience or should I ask for a raise? My evenings and often the weekends are all absorbed by work duties. Working part-time would allow me to find a better balance, and carve out space for side gigs and eventually start my own firm. Any recommendations?
