TL;DR: My contract is up, what should I do next to accelerate my career?

I landed a job at an NGO as an Advisory Associate that lasted 7 months. I am fairly new in this field of work and I don't have a lot of knowledge where to go from here. Is it a safer bet to pursue higher education? What are skills that I can train on myself that could improve my employability in general?
