To everyone struggling today, I recently started doing gratitude lists and it has helped put things into perspective. Not to be THAT person, but finding a way to reflect can work wonders on the soul.

So for example, I had a shit day today and wasn't able to connect with an old friend tonight as planned for weeks because of work, felt cooped in an office all day, etc. My list tonight is: 1) thankful to have friends that I am readily able to maintain contact with and who understand my current lifestyle and support me even if i can't always provide the same in return 2) remembered my newly planted garden from this weekend and how I get to put my fingers back in the dirt this weekend and plant new life and 3) beyond thankful for my little brother who reminds me what it means to be selfless and kindhearted to others. It was so easy for me to get back to my hotel tonight, flop on my bed, and hold back tears of frustration and think wtf is this life (which I DID), but that doesn't serve me in the end and there are so so so many things that are wonderful in life that have gotten us all to wherever we are if we look for them a little more. The negative things are more salacious and easy to grab hold of, you have to work harder to remember and recognize the good things and I can only hope it gets easier with practice

Not a day goes by I'm not thankful for everything I have and the amazing life my mother bore me into this world to live. But it doesn't stop me from being a miserable prick when I'm caught up in the moment.

Grateful for a supportive S/O, for the reverse osmosis water tap in my kitchen and perfecting my pork belly cooking method

And it doesn't have to be deep shit. I was thankful for cheese yesterday because of FETAAAA and I feel really bad for my friends who are lactose intolerant. And the other day, I was grateful for planes even though I hate the because they also allow me to see the world. Really anything that makes your inner self feel a little less dark and ominous

Nice post OP. Gratitude is important to happiness so thanks for reminding me to think of what I'm grateful for today too 👍🏻

Basically, any little thing that you can do that allows you to reflect and understand where you're at and who you are can be incredibly and unexpectedly beneficial to yourself and those around you. I always thought this stuff was bullshit and maybe this job is making me lose it, but this has really helped me and I wanted to share.

I love this! It's so easy to become jaded in consulting. I find it helpful to write my down my feelings too, especially when I'm feeling hopeless and frustrated. It helps me feel more sane and in control.

like

@P1 yep however many things you want - I usually aim for a minimum of 3 and often repeat. I think it's easy to get focused on the bad things and this can help you remember the things in life that are good

Thank you OP

This does work! Science has proven some of it and it makes life better. We all focus on the negative, but lots goes right too!

@K1 exactly! I complain a lot and am heavily pessimistic. However I am starting to see that, in large, does not serve me
