Finally finished and passed my checkride! Got it done even though it took longer than I originally hoped. Excited to keep growing and eventually get my instrument!
What school? How much is it costing you all in? I totally want to do this!
Started at NorCal flight center (https://www.norcalflightcenter.com/) just north of Sacramento but had to leave due to fires after about 35 hours. Now finishing back up in Virginia. Highly recommend NorCal flight center - it’s a small operation with 4 aircraft and well run with great instructors and actually getting people their license. I feel like a lot of places it’ll take forever / don’t get you over the hump.
This has been a lesson in patience - weather issues, aircraft maintenance, scheduling, having off days. Still need to wrap up solo requirements and check ride prep.
Realistically all in for the tests, test prep, some equipment like headphones, 65-75 hours with aircraft rental and instruction (no clue how anyone could do it I’m just 40) looking at 18-20k. My aircraft costs are about $145 an hour (only when engine is on) plus $75 an hour for instructor. I was thinking 12-15k but it’s going to take me more hours (definitely “lost” some hours transitioning airports and instructors but I was already planning to do some lessons back at my home airport due to complicated airspace).
Awesome, good luck! Enjoying it so far?
Yeah made the right decision to do this! A lot of work though in a short period of time. Not exactly a recharging break away from work but something different.
