Going to get promoted to senior this coming year-end, which will mean I have a higher salary and title. Can I leverage this to get a better package in half a year?
My two cents. Move on. In this market moving between jibs should get you 15-20%.
They like you but can’t afford you.
No harm in reaching out in the future. I used my next promotion and salary increase to negotiate higher. I just said "here is my minimum to be enough to leave. I like my current job and I'm not going to leave it for less than a 20% increase." It worked for me. Stick to your position and maybe they'll understand they can't recruit if they are stingy with salary.
He told me to reach out in the next 6 months or so to reconnect or if I had a change in mind. Does this mean that in the half years time or so, I can possibly renegotiate a new offer?
Maybe your skills don't match their banding?
My two cents is stay until you get senior, then get a year of experience at that level. Yes you can get 15-20% now, or get some real experience and get 30-40% and move in a year or 1.5.
I’d be wary if they could do that at this stage. You don’t need to burn the relationship as it’s a small world but let them be the ones to reach out to you
