Best point earning and redemption and companion pass is great. Limited international travel options, basically only to cancun and no first class
@OP I have flown SWA for work for about 6 months and I actually like it better. I find the boarding process very efficient, I get to pick my seat, reward redemption is great, and seats have enough (but not "plenty") of leg room.
Main drawback is a very limited selection of international flights, so if that makes a huge difference to you, don't fly SWA
They also fly to Aruba and Costa Rica. Agree on the point earning and redemption comment and yes, Companion Pass is a great benefit. You also get free WiFi with status. They are incredibly flexible, too, with no change fees and round trips that are priced by segments making it very easy from and expense perspective. Downsides, planes are comfortable enough for a short hop, but uncomfortable on long flights and the in flight experience is equivalent to flying Greyhound with a LOT of unsophisticated travelers who have little regard for personal travel norms. Also, no assigned seating which is great if you have a low boarding position but terrible if you are anywhere after A60.
Not worth it to me. We spend a ton of time flying and I want to be as comfortable as possible.
D2 - I agree to some extent. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love the flexibility they provide and their rewards program is pretty good, but I hate the flying experience. And, truthfully, on some flights they are actually more expensive than an American or United. Like I said, for short hops they are great, and the airport terminals they fly into are usually pretty easy to get through quickly. But if you do a lot of longer legs and want to use your points to fly internationally, they are not ideal.
I typically get to the airport right as my flight is starting to board, so Southwest is a no-go for my work travel.
