Hi all, I just got a job offer at PwC for a senior consultant position. The salary is 30% above my total comp right now, but I’m just worried about the amount of work I will have to put in compared to my amazing work life balance now. Does anyone have any experience moving from industry to consulting? I need some advice on what to do. I’m still early in my career (1.4yoe) so I feel like I shouldn’t care too much about wlb, but at the same time, I don’t want my mental health to suffer either.

I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

Got a compliance job at a bank! Been here a little over a month. The difference in stress levels is incredible
Congrats on the move. How big is the pay differential? Do you like the work?
I am a 6th year at a market paying firm in nyc (restructuring) and starting to look into exit opps for after bonus season -am particularly interested in moving to a regional bank in the jersey/Philly area
I felt like this and switched from litigation to a transactional practice in my 3rd year. I genuinely love my job now and haven’t had a single day that I dread going to work since making the switch.
Also ID. We have to stop focusing on the specific practice and instead on the general skills: quick learner (may not apply), people skills, handling multiple matters simultaneously, preparing solutions to novel issues, triaging fires, etc. We have developed plenty of transferable skills we just forget it.
I work for Thompson Reuters if you see any positions you like let me know and I can generate a referral email for you
Haha good to know!
I went in-house in the employment division, and it was a total game-changer. Way more collaborative environment vs the adversarial one in litigation, and I’m kind of bridging the gap between lawyer and HR professional.
I worked at a plaintiff’s employment law firm for about a year and then started applying to in-house employment positions until I found something that seemed like a good fit
I switched to being an insurance adjuster it’s way less stress.. and since you are an attorney you can come in at a higher level
Been at it 20+ years and feel your pain. Have been doing consulting and coaching and growing that practice considerably. Happy to talk anytime.
Try in-house or get an MBA. Can try pivoting to a legal tech startup but not sure how many are hiring.
I’ve been looking into becoming a privacy officer/analyst. Also considering the foreign service.
LegalTech was a great path for me at the same experience level. Reach out on LinkedIn if you’d want to chat in more detail!
