Also, if you enjoy dealing with the clients and other team members, PMP is the way to go. If you prefer to have less interaction with other team members, programming is the answer.
If you have a good leadership and managerial skills, go for PMP; it’ll help you to become a strong Project Manager and Program Manager someday. I got my PMP over 10 years ago and managing large and complex projects and programs for the last 10 years and over 75-125 team members. 19 out of 20 programs that I managed are successful. I started as an analyst and become project manager; last 5 years I become a program manager itself.
I don’t see it as either/or decision. I have PMP + masters degree in data analytics. The higher you go in your career the more you will be leaning towards PM & business skills and moving away from technical skills.
Maybe tech certs are a better choice for you right now & PMP later in your career?
