I’ve worked for a year at an entry level creative role and honestly I have no real reason to stay. Other companies seem to be paying better and at least offer remote work.
My manager tells me that salary raises are usually on 3-5 year tracks and they avoid giving title changes that come with salary adjustment whenever possible. So you’ll be doing the same level of work of the person above you at some point.
Creative side is hemorrhaging talent as far as I can tell. Lots of work requests and people being forced to pickup the slack. Two of my teams/projects had senior creatives leave months ago and they were never replaced.
DEI & ERG work is okay. I’ve talked to a few different leads to offer my time and I’ve noticed anytime you critique or give a specific idea for how to make it better, the people get defensive. It’s a good start but I personally think the main purpose for it is to bolster data for recruitment.
Employees are being told to “mandatory” come in twice a week, and few people do because nobody really wants or has reason to, but because of that (this part is hearsay) our CEO will soon make the decision that hybrid-remote work is over.
One of my team mates that worked for at least ten years here; they left specifically because of a bad client paired with a long time without raises, and the new job promised forever remote work and higher pay.
My recommendation over all is just to apply and be tough with the recruiters and see how they try to sweeten the deal. They offer low salary brackets so it’s best to assume the ceiling is shortened by minimum 10k.
I know I have a large amount of cynicism especially being younger talent but it comes from knowing when I am being taken advantage of and not wanting anyone else to be either. I know we all hear about how many lions and awards we won and how clients have given us million dollar bonuses and yet the talent never sees a penny of it.
Which office are you in?
Overall it’s a great spot. Real sense of community and they take ERG very seriously.
But it will come down to location, dept and manager.
It’s a great agency to work for. Biggest weakness is the lower salary in comparison to other agencies. WLB can be amazing or a hell depending on your department.
strategy, Data, technology and media seem to have good WLB. Everything else related to client facing, creative and production can be heavy.
The people are amazing and great to work with . In the NYC office things are a bit chaotic, teams lose people and it takes months to get replaced if at all and we keep taking on more business in the meantime. WLB is good but just gotta set the boundaries and people are understanding . I think a lot of blame can fall on the WPP overlords but it pushes people to leave
This is a legit post. There’s lots of posts about the agency and the majority are not positive. You’ll see the lifers and those few lucky enough to be on east award winning scout a rave about it. The majority of employees retention is quite low beyond a year.
