Walked PM through problem and solution (we do software builds) very clearly and because he hasn’t been following along or paying attention in the project, he cites my communication skills are poor. The very things he’s telling me to do I do already. How can I fight back this feedback?

He is asking for you to dumb it down for him, as he is cognitively challenged to understand at the level of detail you have originally provided.

likefunny

Cognitively challenged sounds right. This guy barely puts in any effort to understand what we work on.

Write up your communications and keep the emails.

When you catch him in bs or concerned he's misrepresenting you, you can CC in others or send along the email chain with a poignant observation of incompetence.

helpful

Additionally, I asked him for a concrete example of how I could structure it going forward just to be open and I agreed to adjust it. But shortly after he contradicted himself saying you don’t have to structure it like that but just make it more clear. What??

is that really a contradiction? the way you worded it, it sounds like he gave you prescriptive guidance on structuring, and then clarified that it isnt a black and white rule where you always have to structure it exactly that same way every time; so you should consider it as an example

Short and sweet

So?

Do you have different feedback from others ? Specially people at higher level than this person ?

No. The leaders above him all understand me when I speak to them. No one has mentioned my communication was poor.

What do you suspect is the cause?

Maybe a racism or gender thing?

What is the specific feedback: Is it an accent thing? Are you speaking too fast? Are you using unfamiliar phrasing? Business writing and grammar issues? Not being succinct in your descriptions? Being overly technical and not adjusting to your audience?

None of the above. I asked for feedback from other leaders afterwards, they mentioned my English is fine and very clear.

McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

Hi all,
I’m currently working for a small technical consulting start-up firm. I make good money, have great benefits, and they seem very happy with the work I’m doing, so I know I could move up quickly. However, tech consulting is definitely not my dream job. I want to get into data analytics, and I have an offer from a big company to do just that. I’ve only been at my current company for about 8 months, but I don’t ever see myself loving this job. How do I know when it’s time to make a change?

Hello! I need some (creative) suggestions on how to do a video interview. I live in a very small 1br apartment with my husband occupying the bedroom for work during the day and a 2 yr old occupying the living area. I thought of the kitchen but it’s proximity to a busy road makes it a little too noisy to have a good call. The bathroom perhaps? Will that create an echo? I am thinking of using a backdrop so that the mess will be covered up. It will be a 30-min interview.
