I’m not a fan of “forced tipping”. Even if it’s not accurate, it causes me to quickly assume the employer is trying to get the patron to carry the burden of increasing their employees wages, rather than giving internal raises. I tip very well to those who have earned it. If it were my business, I would much rather pay the staff a good wage, have them happy to work there and cater to every single patron, not just the tippers.
Here is my take : this whole tipping business is overblown. I think some tipping is acceptable, but when everyone is asking for a hand out, it all gets a little much. At a Westin lounge...that’s just too much
Totally agree. Thoughts are that you always tip in hotel restaurant or bar even if you’re using a voucher. I get 1’s and carry them with me just in case I need to tip even if a drink is free (and for housekeeping). And if they are bringing drinks (either free or charged) in the lounge, think it’s customary to tip. Same for airport lounge when the booze is free However, they had a tip jar the other day in the Westin lounge during breakfast. Sorry, it’s a buffet, not happening.
I'm sure this all sucks a lot more for the people who are being forced to beg strangers for a living wage than for those of us offended we have to use our corporate expense accounts for something other than personal gratification
Tip 20% of 0
Every damn pos terminal has a tip! I went to the gas station and they wanted a f in tip!
Agree EY1. I think it’s just embarrassing for companies like Starwood and Marriott to have employees needing to put out tip jars and housekeepers to threaten a strike because they can’t make a living wage. And boycotting those hotels isn’t going to make it better. So I just decline the green choice while still hanging up my towel so I’m still green but doesn’t mean I’m a reason they cut housekeepers’ hours. And tip them. I expense the tips anyway so why not do it?
Their wages suck, and if they were nice and it's on the corporate bill, why not spread the love
Only in America.
