I'm a big believer in time blocking. I schedule dedicated self-care slots in my calendar, just like I would for any other important appointment. Whether it's a yoga class, a nature walk, or simply a relaxing bath, those blocked-off times are non-negotiable. It helps me prioritize my well-being and ensures I don't get swept up in the chaos of the day.
I've learned to embrace micro-moments of self-care throughout the day. Even if it's just five minutes of deep breathing between patients, or a quick stretch break during charting, those little moments add up. I also make sure to fuel my body with healthy snacks and stay hydrated throughout the day. It's amazing how much of a difference these small acts of self-care can make.
Setting boundaries is crucial for me. I've learned to say 'no' to extra shifts or requests that encroach on my personal time. My evenings and weekends are sacred, and I protect them fiercely. It's not always easy, but it's essential for maintaining my sanity and preventing burnout. Remember, we can't pour from an empty cup.
