We are planning a destination wedding in South America and my fiancé feels strongly that we should not have a wedding registry. We initially put that we won’t have one because we are asking people to travel, but lots of family have reached out asking for one. Is it bad to have a registry if people are already traveling? Anyone have examples of a good way to say, «  you don’t need to give us anything but a bunch of you asked for a registry »?

I would say definitely have one, but only put small items on there! The thing is - people WILL buy you stuff and if you don’t have a registry, they’ll actually be wasting their money by buying stuff you don’t want. Maybe only put things under $50 or something like that? And you don’t have to advertise it too, it can just sit on your website in case anyone goes looking for it!

My MIL just hosted a party and wrote “no presents please, your presence is present enough!” Or something cute like that - people still brought gifts but there should be a bunch of lines like this online if you wanted to put it somewhere online or on your invitation! That’s super selfless and considerate of you guys though

people are still going to give you gifts even if they travel. there’s nothing wrong with having a registry, you’re not forcing anyone to buy from it. also many decide not to attend designation wedding, so they’re typically happy to have a registry to send in lieu of their attendance

If people are asking to give you gifts, send them the registry. I wouldn’t make the registry public to all because it may rub some the wrong way if they’re traveling too. My plan for my destination wedding is to just write no gifts on the invite and say their presence is the gift

So my fiancé and I are having a microwedding in Rocky Mountain National Park next year, and we’re working with an elopement planner.
She sent over a sample ceremony (intro, sweet poems + passages to be read, and example vows), and we read through it last night. I was reading it out loud while my fiancé made dinner, and it just hit me that this is really happening. I’m just really happy that I found someone who is willing to take a vow to spend his life with me and I’m so excited for that day :)

Have you talked about your wedding with coworkers? I made the mistake of saying I had to leave work a little early one day because I was going to do a tasting at my venue. That starts a debate on why one shouldn’t get married, how much wedding costs & what a waste it is, dresses are stupid because you only wear them once, etc. I haven’t talked about my wedding much, but I didn’t appreciate this. I ignored the negative comments and we moved the conversation along. Not talking about that anymore!

So, we have a wedding registry and my fiance and I would really like people to stick to gifting us what's on that registry. Yet, people keep asking what they should get us. Are you paying for bridesmaid hair and make-up? Was a little sticker shocked $200 per person before gratuity, just adds up quickly with that many people😬 Not requiring it but wanted to offer it if they want to be more glammed up, but now seeing online that’s it’s considered quite rude to not cover it for them? Maybe just cover one and they can do the other if they want? Don’t want to be rude if it’s expected but also don’t want to blow our budget… any perspective on the “norm” appreciated!
