Anyone in this bowl ever worry that your house looks too nice on Zoom calls? I transitioned into this career late so I’m older than my peers and managers, and tho I don’t live in a palace, it’s a nice place I’ve paid my dues for. I’ve gotten a few “wow nice place” comments and worry that it undercuts my ability to, say, ask for a raise one day. Anyone else encounter this?

4th year going into my 5th year and am leading discovery and case management on a case with a $5 million budget (yeah!) with a rocket docket. Starting to understand why partners have no time to do substantive work: it’s all answering client questions and managing staff, associates, and reviewing partners.

Any tips for the transition? I’ve never been too demanding from my colleagues and usually just pick up any slack myself. Now I need to motivate others and give direction.

Any advice on not letting frustrations come out in an unproductive way over slack chats or other virtual programs, especially as we use these more and more instead of direct discussions?

BDRs: Can I get some honest reviews and experiences from your time as a BDR? I’m making the pivot from 5 years in the sports industry (plus 2 years exp of direct sales at Spectrum). At the end of the week I also end up with a bunch (50+) of open Outlook windows related to meeting invites. Basically, I look at my calendar, double click the invite then join the Zoom meeting. It takes me directly into the meeting and leaves the invite window open. Wash, rinse, repeat and by Friday there is literally one for every meeting I attended. Unfortunately, you can’t close them all together because it will ask you “Want to save your changes?” for every single one. Thoughts?

Do y’all think the Metaverse will alter our industry? I remember the movie Ready Player One tripped me out. VR seems like a great alternative to Zoom meetings.

How formal does everyone keep internal emails? I would like to drop all of the formalities (similar to what you see in quick messaging systems like Slack or Skype). There is a general sense of formality in most of the emails exchanged, but I'm fine with trying to break this trend if everyone else is doing it.

Is it normal to get ghosted by an ECD after they show interest in hiring you? Chatted over Zoom with an NYC ECD earlier this year. They told me to get in touch with them in August about meeting in person. I did what they said. I've emailed once a week since the start of August, but have heard nothing. I understand that ECDs are busy, but I wonder if I should give up.

Dealing with the weirdest situation:
Found a great apt in a luxury building on streeteasy. Immediately called leasing office and couldn’t reach anyone even tho office listed as open. Put in application and paid the fees online. Agent called back and said I had the place held. Mentioned my payment was non refundable which comprised of $20 application fee and $500 application deposit going towards rent. So if I choose not to go forward I’ll lose entire 520 I paid. Is that legal? Cont.

Question: What’s the deal with constant news of all these female teachers (often married) sleeping with their students? Why would an adult woman, let alone a married woman want to sleep with a 16yr old…heck in some cases, 14 yr old?

When i was a manager at a restaurant, one time there was a drug bust in the parking lot with 5 local police cars and a customer.

However, my team members told all customers who were coming through that their manager (me) got detained for dealing drugs out through the drive thru window. And i let them say that 😅
