Well I did it! Finally pulled the plug on an 18 year consulting career. So excited to not have to deal with the politics, last minute weekend request by domineering old school Partners/ always working on PTO and am overjoyed at never having to write another damn RFP/ proposal response. I put my blood, sweat and tears into this place. I have no regrets and knew I had burned out. It’s important to be honest with yourself. Yes people, there is life after Deloitte! Industry here I come!

Who told you there was no politics or weekend work in industry?

Of course there will be... I’m not an idiot. Just not at the level of this place. You know it too.

Congrats, happy for you.

Inspiring! Which industry and roles are you targeting? 18 yrs - were you SM level?

like

Yes- SM level. Career Big 4- consultant forward. Took a few years off for kids- went back 4 years ago and realized after a few years, a lot had changed and I was over it.

like

18 fricken years? Sheesh if it was so bad why did you stick around so long?

like

Once YOU get to SRM, you can yourself that question. It’s the hardest role in the firm. I know- Pretty much did them all. Additionally, to address your snarky comment, I loved my career for a long time but things change. I changed. Good luck to you sir.

Not to rain on your parade but politics very much exists in industry. If not, I’d say probably more than in consulting.

I'm a brand new attorney (passed the Feb 2021 bar) who started an in-house counsel position a few months ago (where my focus is negotiating agreements for the sale of my company's software). I was a contracts manager on an in-house team for 4 years prior, which is why I was able to go straight in-house. I'm entirely skipping out on firm life, which feels both good and bad. Is there anything I should think about getting experience in? How should I go about making sure I am seeing enough things?

Hey everyone. I found out we are expecting our first child and I’m really nervous. I got into consulting one year ago and I’m up for promotion this year. With timing of our performance conversations I would have to inform I’m pregnant before outcomes - then shortly after the promotion effective date I would go on a leave for due date. I’ve worked really hard and I’m worried our wonderful news will throw chances with this :(- also if I don’t get promoted pretty sure it’s up or out. Any advice?
