What agencies will be targeted for RIFs and when do you think shutdown will end? Also will the recent RIFs get reversed?

Any agency can be targeted. As someone who went thru a RIF this summer, we were blindsided. A lot of people at the agency took the DRP (deferred resignation program), so we weren't expecting another 1,350 people to lose their jobs. And now the administration is talking about more 'layoffs' which will be "permanent".

Not sure about specific targets, but I do know, the IRS was impacted in some areas, specifically in the state of Utah where there were layoffs.

Just got a freelance gig for $1250 for 2 shoot days, but they’re asking for hourly rate for prep days. Not sure what rate to give them & if I should base it on a 10 or 12 hr hourly rate. It’s LA based & content/digital production. I’m not a fan of hourly rates, but I don’t want to lose the gig or end up agreeing to less days than I actually end up working..

Hi 👋. I posted here a few weeks ago about being nervous conducting a PIP conversation with my team member.
I did it this week and let me just say it was the weirdest conversation ever. The guy is usually argumentative and tries to disprove every bit of feedback. But this time he just sat there and asked no questions and said nothing.
Maybe he’s looking for new jobs already - don’t mind this at all and this would be a good outcome for him overall.

I’m looking for a new job, working remotely, that doesn’t require a Bachelor’s. (I’m currently going back to school to get one, as I only have an Associate’s in Mathematics right now)
I had positions in private sector that allowed me to supplement having a degree with experience but not in public sector. I’ve seen coworkers get positions they aren’t able to do simply because they have a degree and then leave a mess for me to clean up but I’m not allowed to have the position. Any suggestions?

Does where you get your masters degree matter? I’m in an online environmental science masters program at an expensive “name-brand” school, but have colleagues telling me I should transfer to a less expensive program to save $ because no one cares about where your degree is from. Aside from the cost of it, I like my program, and the fact that I’m now connected to an incredible alumni network. And not gonna lie, I like the clout. Thoughts?

A HR question I really want to understand. ISRS HR quoted a podcast "The not so great resignation" saying 70% regret leaving and many want to go back to old employer. If this really the case the employee likely left due to higher pay at the new company. If they want to boomerang back they will likely come back at even a higher rate than they left the new company for. So getting double raise when they boomeranged. Isn't it unbeneficial, why not just give employee a 7% raise in the first place?

Interviewed for a GS-15 (same agency but different office) and totally aced the interview with excellent answers. They know I’m a top performer with senior references. This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.
