Tbh I don’t think there are any good exits from there. Maybe best to lateral into a more appealing area of tech by leveraging your background?
The obvious area you could potentially lateral into is cyber security.
Stop calling yourself a tech consultant for starters
Being an auditor you lose credibility calling yourself a consultant then you have no chance

That’s the problem, I’m not sure. I haven’t had much experience with anything but M1 makes a good point about cybersecurity

The longer you stay in internal audit - the harder it is to leave. I left immediately after my first year to pivot careers with a pay cut and now I’m doing way more interesting work with way higher pay. People find it hard to leave because they want to maintain their level and pay when leaving when that’s not really realistic for someone changing careers.

Cyber is a pretty standard exit. You can also probably look to transfer internally within EY to cyber. That is what the 2 or 3 folks I know did

It’s definitely not a short/quick process. But it is doable. And you don’t have to look for jobs, reestablish your network, etc
