I create my to-do list at the end of the previous day with the 2 or 3 things that are must-dos. I look at the list in the morning to see if anythings come in to update that list. I'll try to do low-effort small wins that don't take much time first (e.g. following up with clients/internal teams).
For larger tasks, I break it up into tiny steps and tell myself "I just need to do these 2 steps today." I usually get a bit further.
In fact, I just did one. I call these lists “brain downloads” because sometimes a list telling me I must do specific things makes me freeze up. It’s the same thing… just a gentler way of phrasing it.
We use a term called OHIO, which is an acronym for only handle it once. It means if you grab your laundry, you put it away or if you have a plate in your hand, you put it in the dishwasher. That helps, but the morning routine is certainly tough to motivate young kids
I struggle with this too, my desk is often covered in post-it notes with lists, but motivation still escapes me.
Lately, I’ve been trying to jump into tasks as soon as they come in to just “start the ball rolling” and it has been having some positive impact. I tell myself “I don’t need to finish it or even do it perfect, I need to just set up the meeting or make the first call”. That’s been helping me get over the initial static state for most small to medium tasks.
But I also struggle getting started on larger “chaos projects” that require me read the disorganized dump of information from my leadership, interpret, analyze and form a viable path forward to completion. Those tasks seem the most prone to getting stuck for me, because the starting is such an uphill push.
I don’t know if this helped, but I’m interested in keeping these conversations going, because the more we share and source solutions among ourselves, the better we’ll all be.
May the odds be ever in your favor.
Happy to help! Let me know how it goes.
Adderall
😂 seriously though. 15 mg, cup of coffee, 6 mg Zyn. My heart is going to give out by the time I'm 37, but at least I'll have generated tons of shareholder value before that happens.
I love this timer! It helps me avoid going down rabbit holes and lets me put easy timers in place

Just don’t travel with them and forget to turn them off. The beeping is very suspect 😂
