What are some strategies for someone in mid career to join a consulting firm like big4 / IBM etc who has not had traditional “consultant” title or cool company brand but have about 7-8 years worth of startup (sold!) and global client strategy/tech experience? Do these firms typically prefer recruiting directly from college?

Just get a referral with the relevant practice. Big 4 values industry skills.

I was recruited from industry with 7 years of financial services experience.

Nice! Thanks for sharing.

If solid industry skills, 8 yoe probably would be hired in at “manager” level.

I personally think senior manager or above experienced hire with no consulting experience is difficult.

Thanks for the insight. Honestly I’ve had multiple informational interviews and quickly learned that since I wouldn’t know “their way of doing things” and “internal frameworks”, it will be a disadvantage. I’ve been applying for senior consultant roles. It’s true that I can learn via some case preps but in industry, I’ve managed everything from portfolios, GTM, Ops, dev, etc without working through frameworks and have led global teams. I don’t know what the disconnect is. I will continue to explore and learn.

Why would you do this….

Wdym? Explore the pivot?

I have a student who only comes to school two days a week and then only for 1 hour. He tells me I have to pass him so it doesn't matter. This is very frustrating. I knew this student hates school and often states he is stupid. I just do my best to encourage him. Build confidence. Any ideas to encourage him more? By the way, taking to his parent does nothing.

Hi SpEd Teachers, is anyone else facing EXTREME staff shortages as a result of state funding? We are not able to meet my students' IEP requirements (not even close) due to not enough paraprofessionals and the district flat out refusing to hire more. I've lost 70+ hrs/week of para hours over the past few years and my students are really suffering. This leaves our district open to lawsuits, but the real problem is the state's education budget. What can we do?? This isn't going to fix itself.

Thoughts on buying pre-construction homes in markets that are popping and flipping selling them when construction is complete?

My uncle does this (he’s a realtor) and usually gets 2-3x return. Obviously there is huge risk because property prices can change a lot in 1-2 years, but at the same time the upside is hard to ignore.

Anyway I protect myself against the downside risk? (other than loosing my down payment)

Asking for a friend:
My friend received two job offers for Account Executive roles: a Mid-Market role with Confluent and an Enterprise role with ThoughtSpot. He’s conflicted because Confluent is a more established company, ThoughtSpot is Pre-IPO. Confluent is a lucrative product to sell and has established SDR reps so there’s a good blend of inbound and outbound sales. Thoughtspot is more of a startup culture where most of the sales comes from outbound and it’s a tougher sell.

I work in sf and Nyc and have now saved enough where I’m wondering if it makes sense to buy rather than rent an apartment as an investment. Tricky part is I’m still quite young and this wouldn’t be my lifelong/family home. Have also considered buying in less metropolitan areas and renting them out for passive income. Curious if anyone’s gone through this process before and have thoughts ?
