I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

1. Sitting to standing desk
2. Ultra wide curved monitor
3. Adjustable Monitor arm
4. Just ordered an ergonomic mouse
Wishlist
5. Upgrade to a quality ergonomic chair
6. Buy and customize a mechanical keyboard for fun but I also just really want a tactile keyboard
- Mousepad and keyboard pad with wrist support
- an external monitor - literally one of the **best** WFH investments I made.
- seat and back cushion attachments
- good lighting (I always get compliments on how well lit my space is on virtual calls). I have a desk lamp and floor lamp with adjustable heads.
- fake plants from Ikea lol.
- a candle wax melt warmer. I don’t use traditional scented candles with wicks, so this is a great in-between.
- ottoman to store blankets for when it gets cold.
- super underrated but highly recommended: an underdesk foot rest. Some of them come in wood and fabrics. Such a great investment to reduce pain when sitting for so long.
Example: ComfiLife Foot Rest for Under Desk at Work – Adjustable Memory Foam Foot Rest for Office Chair & Gaming Chair – Ergonomic Design for Back & Hip Pain Relief (Black) https://a.co/d/7s1ImhH
You’re welcome and happy decorating!
Walking treadmill
A bike
Splurge on a nice chair
AlixPartners - I love my wobble board!
Oh man I’m a nerd for my setup. I recently just split my setup so I have one for gaming and another for working now. My favorites:
- standing desk
- monitor arm/mount - so much cleaner, more desk space, easier to do cable management, and you can get a good one for $35 on Amazon.
- metal mousepad. Sounds weird but I love them. I have a cat and other mousepads just soaked up his fur, the metal ones are easy to clean and I love how fast I can swipe my mouse across the screen with them.
- monitor light - these clip or sit to the top of your monitor and light up your desk. I hate lamps and having stuff on my desk top, so this is a great way to get light without sacrificing space.
- peg board. I got mine from IKEA, they’re a great way to store and display headphones and other essentials you want within reach.
- last thing - don’t be afraid to splurge on a mouse and/or keyboard. I used to buy cheap ones and always found a way to be bothered by them. Since investing in really nice ones it’s easier to type and use the mouse all day.
Can you post a link to the monitor arm and light?
I have an accent wall behind where my monitor faces

Let’s see it! I need ideas
Desktop whiteboard. It's a simple analog item, but it has enabled me to get rid of post-its and notepads
My wife’s tanning bed directly in front of my desk 😍
Also if you can’t spring for an expensive standing desk, I got a telescoping one from Amazon that’s awesome. I can also move it anywhere easily - any room or even the patio or yard. And it easily lowers to desk height if needed. Like $50. Also folds up and has carry case. Not that I need to travel with it. But If I did, I could 😊
I actually just got one of the couch desks that go on your lap. I put it on the edge of my bar and stand on a balance board.
Mouse jiggler. A must-have if you don't have one yet.
I was reading a news article how somebody got fired for downloading mouse jiggling software onto their laptop. There was also performance issues before too.
I've done this once, but I scheduled a TEAMS meeting with only myself and dialed into it, so it showed I was busy

Going off the beaten path here but something to tell your family you’re in a call and not to disturb you. We both like to keep our office doors open but my husband and I needed a system to tell each other when the other was on a phone call or otherwise shouldn’t be disturbed. He created “on-air” boxes for us and set it up so the Alexa show goes in do not disturb mode (doorbell) as well as turning on a hall light. We each have a box like this in our office so we know when the other is in a meeting.
Doesn’t need to be this elaborate (I think he just needed a project lol) but something to tell the family not to disturb you - whether it’s a shut door or some other signal.

Having a good chair is Uber important. Invest in an Aaron. Your back will thank you. Few other chairs will last and support your back for hours on end.
Set up a space that doesn’t have a lot of distractions.
When you set up; be mindful of lighting and what shows up on your background. Having good light is essential as you maybe on lots of video calls.
If possible, don’t put your work area smack in the middle of your work area. One of the most common problems is that people don’t stop working since you are just home anyway. Separate the space and learn to “leave work” even though you are home.
- Sit/stand desk and an ergonomic chair are wonderful.
- Monitor mounts to raise monitors up to eye level.
- A grip-strengthener has helped me focus as I’m a tactile thinker.
- Quality noise-canceling headphones help quite a bit for focusing.
- Quality mic/headset - or a all-in-one like the Microsoft Modern USB-C speaker.
- Bigger Yeti for coffee!
And weirdly enough…an Apple Watch. The reminders to stand up & close the exercise rings have helped me stop being such a slug.
lol the bigger yeti for coffee got me, earlier today I ordered a massive tea infuser bottle to enable my tea addiction 🫖
Hadn’t thought of some of these thanks!!

Having three screens makes a giant difference in my WFH set up. Laptop - monitor - travel monitor. I use all three daily. Very worth it.
Also invest in a good chair (at least $300) - your back will thank you
